Providence's East Side tunnel - east portal
This is the east portal (near 182 Gano St) of the old East Side Tunnel that went through college hill and under Brown University. This branch of the New Haven R.R. went from Providence across the Seekonk River through East Providence to Warren and Bristol R.I. A switch in Warren lead to Fall River, MA. The branch and tunnel were abandoned many decades ago. A close look reveals that the rails are still in place. The tunnel was completed in 1909.
